“In 2005, I was diagnosed with dystonia and sent by my doctor to try the Alexander Technique with Christel Herick. I've had great results. Try it!”
Cedric Coleman, principal bassoonist of the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony
“My piano teacher suggested I try Alexander Technique when I developed issues with one hand after surgery. There was an immediate improvement in the use of my hand after my first appointment with Christel. As I continue to learn and practice Alexander Technique, I have regained more mobility in my neck, shoulders and back. The benefits I have received have translated into richer sound when I play the piano. I would highly recommend Christel Herick to other musicians.”
Jane H., Guelph
"Christel Herick brings a great deal of integrity and intuitive skill into her practice… I have found that my posture has improved greatly and I notice a spring in my step when on my way to her office for a session. I recommend her to anyone who would like to change long-held patterns of movement. She has done wonders teaching my teens how to hold their rapidly growing bodies correctly. Christel is a leader in our area for Alexander Technique, and we are so fortunate to have her in Guelph.

How it can help you
The Alexander Technique is a century-old healing method that teaches you how to move your body more efficiently and freely. The most common feedback of clients over the years is that they gain a sense of lightness and a more positive outlook. But that’s only a beneficial side-effect.
Most clients come to Christel Herick because of pain – back problems, repetitive stress injuries, muscle tension caused by non-ergonomic workplaces…
Because they relearn through her guiding hands how to move as their bodies evolved to move – before being compromised by such activities as sitting in front of a computer for eight hours a day – their problems diminish or disappear. While not a quick fix, the Alexander Technique is an enduring one.
Here are a few more reasons to try it out:
- Enhanced artistic performance
- Reduced muscle tension and stress
- Increased energy and self-awareness
- Freeing of body and mind
The Alexander Technique is gaining recognition. A 2008 study published in the British Medical Journal, as reported in the Guardian, showed it to be more effective than massage in reducing back pain. “Patients who had been trained in the Alexander Technique reported less pain and an ability to do more by the end of the year.”
The technique is conveyed best through direct experience. So the best way to find out what it’s all about is to try it out.
